iPhone 7 review
The new iPhone 7 stormed the market with both positive and negative reviews. The model comes in a pretty design with other features that includes the 32GB starting storage, excellent camera, quad-core processor, water resistance plus the headphone controversy. Here, we have keenly discussed the whole features and you will be able to judge for yourself if this upgrade is worth your hard-earned cash.
iPhone 7 comes in different colors. An outstanding model is the new Jet Black finish that looks distinctively different from the previous models. The outer material being a solid metal crafted with patience to produce a smooth cover without necessarily being slippery. The second offer is simply called the Black model. This one replaces the Space Grey common with the previous iPhone series. The other available versions are Rose Gold, Gold and Silver.
The new iPhone’s shape and size is a complete replica of the previous iPhone 6s, however, there is a slight change with the antenna bands. The bands that used to ran across the phone’s back side now curve around the ends. The camera nub is also more rounded. All these changes, though somehow few are well welcomed in the market.
With a screen size of 4.7 inches, the new iPhone lacks the headphone socket. There must be some reasons as to why the company removed the socket; however, the reason is not clear yet. Another change in design is the home button. The iconic click is now replaced with a capacitive touch sensitivity which works using the tiny bits of electric charges in your fingers. This would, however, not work if you are wearing gloves.
Another design marvel is the water resistance brilliant feature. iPhone 7 is designed hardy enough to withstand any entry of water up to a depth of 1 meter, for a lengthy duration of up to 30 minutes. The model is also dust resistant.
Screen & Speakers
The screen, just like that of iPhone 6s, doesn’t pack any extra pixels. The resolution is fixed at 1334 X 750 & a pixel density or Retina of- 326 ppi. The screen display, however, is richer than any other phone out there. Apple used the wider DCI-P3 color gamut just like that of the 9.7 inch iPad Pro and iMac. This means more color display making everything realistic and classic.
The colors are punchier without necessarily losing the refinement. The skin tones look lifelike and natural than ever. The screen is also a bit brighter & less reflective making it a lot easier to use in bright daylight. This screen is the best IPS, you are lucky to get in the market; but not before the Samsungs AMOLED screen series.
The only drawback with the screen is the white area display that seems to have a pink tinge, especially when reading on a site with a white color background. This was just fine with the previous iPhone series.
iPhone 7 speakers are not as successful as that of the other models in the market; such as HTC 10 which uses stereo Boomsound speakers. Samsung is also behind on this speaker feature. That said, Apple still manages to design something worth listening to. The bits are awesome with such a louder and double volume that of iPhone 6s.
This new model comes with two speakers; one positioned just out of the earphone slot and the other at the bottom. These give some kind of stereo separation but are so close for that quick notice. With its volume on the maximum, iPhone 7 sounds so tizzy and a bit harsh. To avoid this, you need to notch the volume a little down- just a few levels.
iOS 10 and its Performance
Apple still kept the 2GB RAM as for the 6s but the performance is far much better. The quad-core CPU is the first to be used by Apple on phones. Two of the cores are for heavy lifting; multitasking and gaming while the remaining two used for light tasks; emails and messaging.
New iPhone 7 is 30 percent faster than the previous 6s and 12 percent more powerful than the close competitor, Galaxy s7. On the graphics parts, iPhone 7 scored 30 percent better than 6s and the Galaxy S7. The iOS 10 comes with incredible features and apps. Apps like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger& Snap chat are rolled into one.
iPhone 7 comes with the optical image stabilization (OIS), a new 6-optic lens and a wider aperture, f/1.8. This improves the camera performance, especially in low-light areas. It has also double the flash and brightness for that good shot. The True Tone System used, helps to provide a more realistic skin color and tone. This avoids the ghost-like images due to LED flashes. For the videos, you can choose between the 1080p or 4K depending on your frame rate preference. The Facetime camera with 7MP of the lens provides a better selfie than before while the rare 12MP camera is sufficient for any caption.
This is one the key drawbacks facing the new model of iPhone. The short battery life will only last you 6 hours of consistent use. The lack of stamina mode makes it difficult to reduce the battery usage by different apps. Battery life together with the headphone jack are the real annoyances of Apple’s new machine. However, its overall performance and features make this phone a good gadget in the market that’s worth the investment.
